Sometimes the hardest part about preparing for a camping trip is figuring out what to do for food. Do you plan and pack ahead of time, do you just pack snacks and buy when you get to your destination, will your destination have food available? The options are endless and sometimes depend on where you’ll end up. Plus, you have to figure out how you’ll cook the food once you get there and what cookware you are going to need. Well, to ease a little of the food stress, we’ve put together 3 recipes that are easy and not time consuming to make. Here are the top camping recipes for summer.
French Bread Pizza
Great for any time of day; lunch, dinner, heck even breakfast if you switch up the ingredients a little; French Bread pizza is a must on your camping trips.
· 1 large loaf French bread
· 1 pkg softened cream cheese
· Grated mozzarella cheese
· 1 jar pizza or marinara sauce
· Your favorite pizza toppings (pepperoni, sausage, cheese, olives, etc)
· Aluminum foil
· Zip log bags- gallon size
1. Cut the bread in half length-wise.
2. spread a thin layer of cream cheese over both halves, top and bottom.
3. Spread thin layer of pizza sauce on top of cream cheese.
4. Layer the toppings of your choice.
5. Close sandwich and wrap in foil 2 times.
6. Store in gallon storage bags and freeze until you are ready to leave.
7. To cook: place on hot campfire coals. Cook for 5-8 min, turning every couple of minutes.
8. Remove from fire and let cool a couple of minutes before unwrapping. Enjoy!
Campfire French Toast
Breakfast can be one of the harder meals to plan for while camping. This campfire French toast recipe is easy and delicious.
- Egg creations French Toast Blend mixture
- 1 loaf of bread of your choosing (texas toast is my fav)
- ¼ cup of sliced almonds (optional)
- 1 500g container of fresh strawberries, sliced
- Confectioners’ sugar
- Wrap the loaf of bread loosely in parchment paper and then foil, leaving the top open so that the bread pieces fall slightly open.
- Sprinkle strawberries over top and in-between slices of bread. Repeat with almonds.
- Wrap foil and parchment paper tightly around bread and pour the carton of French toast mix over the entire loaf of bread.
- Wrap foil over the top of the loaf, tightly.
- Place over fire or grill on low to med heat for 30-45 minutes or until bread is no longer soggy.
- Remove from heat and let sit for 10 minutes.
- Sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar and serve with syrup and strawberries.
Now that we have breakfast and lunch/dinner covered, you’ve got to have a good recipe for dessert! Campfire cones are easy and the kids can make their own.
- Ice cream cones (sugar or waffle work best)
- Variety of your favorite candies- m&m’s, chocolate chips, crushed up Oreos, mini marshmallows, etc)
- Tin foil
- Fill the ice cream cones with your favorite candies and toppings.
- Wrap tightly in tin foil a couple of times for layers. This will help everything cook more evenly.
- Place the wrapped cones on the hot coals for 5 min, turning frequently.
- Remove from fire, let cool 2-3 minutes, unwrap and enjoy the ooey gooey goodness!
