Tunes to Play in Tennessee

Tennessee is home of the live country music capital of the U.S. So, let’s get you prepared for what will be in store as you cruise along the highway in your RV or motorhome from Cullum and Maxey. With your comfortable and affordable ride, a bag of sunflower seeds, a group of your best mates, and an awesome playlist, your road trip through Tennessee will be one for the books! Let’s take a closer listen to what should be blasting through your speakers, shall we?

Dave Matthews Band

There’s nothing better than a little DMB on any road trip as he fills the car up with his raspy voice and killer guitar skills. Everyone’s head will be bobbing to Dave with the windows down. The musicianship has withstood since the early 90’s and has captivated music fans from all generations with its easiness to listen to. Dave Matthews, we thank you.

Gary Clark Jr.

Born and raised out of Austin, Texas Gary Clark Jr. has some massive soul. Factually unable to read music, you’ll forget that as he serenades you with his unique guitar style. A blend of jazz, blues, country, and even hip-hop, his music can suit just about anyone’s taste. Listen to his Bright Lights EP and thank me later.

Just to add a bit of hip-hop to the mix, Common destroys beats with his easy going rhymes. The album Be reigns from 2005 and was nominated for best Hip Hop video. So while Tennessee may not be a birthplace of rap or hip-hop, Common will welcome you to the cool side.

Trampled By Turtles

A bluegrass, folk band from Minnesota have continued to impress fans since their start in 2003. However, in the last few years they have particularly blown up the music scene attracting a wide variety of fans of all ages and from all over. Listen to Palomino and see where the road takes you.

Dither is one of the best albums to play with the smell of fresh grass and the windows down. The country vocals and the backup shredding of the full band are a combination quite incomparable to any other band. They’ve been around the “jam scene” since ’89 but have paved their way into the hearts of music lovers of all varieties. The mixture of long jams and psychedelic rock make it a unique sound, irrefutably moe sounds like moe, and nothing more.

Besides some of these bands, there are of course, some other country classics like Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, and the Rascal Flatts, but also the versatile Justin Timberlake who just released a country track called “Drink You Away”, which is worth giving a listen to. The options are endless but these are a few staples for a Tennessee road trip with my group of friends.
